Are you a huge Harry Potter fan? Guilty over here in our house! Ok, we did this idea for Halloween, which was so fun to do with our adult friends. But it’s also great for teenagers (as long as they are mature and HP fans), for birthday parties, or if you just want to have a nerdy evening with friends. Here are the essentials you need for your perfect HP evening.

The Entertainment/Game

For our murder mystery, we purchased a murder mystery game from Etsy. It was just over $30 dollars, but WORTH IT! The characters are loosely based on real HP characters, so everyone got to give their character their own flair, but costume ideas were not too difficult. This is the link we used:

Seriously this game was so well thought out, it had us rolling with laughter. The best recommendation- get into character, and have fun! Invite only your most fun friends. There is also a 10-player version of the game if you have a larger crowd.

Snacks and Food

You can choose to do a dinner, or just do snacks. We did both! Some fun snacks we did were:

  • Huffle puffs- pirates booty popcorn or cheese puffs
  • Raven Claws- Bugels
  • Golden Snitches- Ferrer Rochet with little wings
  • Salted Wands- pretzel sticks
  • Polyjuice potion of course- get some dry ice, and punch of your choice!
  • Herbology tray- just an excuse to get some vegetables into the evening 😉
  • Bertie Botts Every flavor beans- We just used jelly bellies, but you could also get the real ones!
  • Gryffindor Grapes- again, another excuse to get some healthy foods into the evening.
  • Candy or Licorice Wands- Twizzlers or Red vines.

Have fun with your food and snack ideas! And make sure you use fun decor!

We also did a dinner with ours, and played the first round at the dinner table. If you serve dinner, be prepared for your evening to be a little longer than normal- plan for about 3 hours.

DECOR

Herbology corner

If you are like me, you might have a few too many houseplants at home. I gathered them all together to create a “herbology corner.” You could also use some old books, jars or trunks you have at home to decorate with a “potions” area, etc. Have fun with the things you have at home!

Wanted Wizard Wall

This you can make with images you get online, or you can create your own with images of your own guests. Either way, it makes a great place for a photo op!

This was our favorite Halloween we have done yet! If you are a HP fan, this is something you have to try!

Drop a comment to let me know if you decide to throw your own HP party, and I hope you have a magical time.
